Alex works in ethics, primarily in moral psychology, meta-ethics, and in the philosophy of happiness and wellbeing. He has published on various topics, including desire, motivation, reasons for action, theories of value, disability, and wellbeing. He published a book defending a reduction of desire to belief with Oxford University Press in 2021 (further information, including reviews, here). He is presently working on a book about fitting attitudes and fitting happiness, which explores the idea that you ought to be happy just when things are good, and unhappy when they are bad. But he is also working on various other issues, including instrumental rationality in desire, and the principle that ought implies can.
