Philosophy of language, Philosophy of mind
I mostly work in philosophy of language and philosophy of mind; I'm broadly interested in the relationship between speaking, thinking, and acting. I'm especially interested in the language we use to describe and express our mental states, and how it is that we use linguistic tools to shape one another's thoughts, behaviors, and commitments.
While at the Center I will be researching different cognitive dimensions of ability and ability-adjacent concepts, and the roles played by these concepts in the description and function of mental systems. One such project is about the role that skill plays in our understanding of the relationship between desire and action, and the effect that imaginative abilities or a diminished capacity for scene construction has on human desire. I'm especially interested in the conceptual differences between ability, skill, and capacity and the role that these distinction can play in theorizing about the mental.
